A/C Condenser Pad Question

A/C Condenser Pad Question

  • A/C Condenser Pad Question

I’m having a new Ruud system put in next week and I poured a concrete pad for the new larger unit to sit on as I no longer want it attached to the house. The concrete pad turned out nice and will be a great foundation for the new condenser as this area is mostly mulch and loose dirt, I think concrete was a good option. I did my best to level the new pad working under the existing unit but it isn’t completely perfect. The texture of the finish is a little rough and has a couple of high/low spots but overall is level when I put my 4′ level across it in either direction. The new Ruud condenser has a composite base which may or may not allow for any error with the new pad. My question is how perfectly flat does the pad need to be with a composite base condenser?

  • It’ll be great. The composite bases are very sturdy. I’d put a set of risers under it to further elevate the condenser out of the dirt. There’s adjustable ones or fixed depending on how perfect your slab is although from your description it sounds like fixed would be just fine.
P.s I wish my customers poured nice slabs like that for their air conditioners.

I’m tired of these mediocre “semi flammable” refrigerants. If we’re going to do it let’s do it right.

Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

  • Looks nice. Worse case you can knock off small spot if it is high and interfering with the unit sitting flat.

  • R600a, are risers a universal fit or designed for each manufacturer?

  • Looks awesome! if thats all you have to worry about, can I come live with you? I sell Ruud so you would have an on site tech.

  • Mr. Bill, can you answer my question about the risers for Ruud “Are risers a universal fit or designed for each manufacturer?”?

It’s a double edge sword, drives my wife crazy with how everything has to be just right lol.

If it’s just a/c I use 3” risers unless they are out I use 4”. I think the 6” look funny that high up, but that is just me being weird.

I use 6-in in case somebody’s negligent with the lawn mower it’s pretty much above the discharge that way and the grass just goes under it.
