Frusrtrated With Contractors

I have been receiving quotes on replacing my second floor system ( still functioning) , NO ONE cares do a static test on the ductwork to ensure that the variable speed furnace or a Load calculation , I have been told that the motor will adjust for duct work deficiencies but I am aware that the high static pressure pressure will shorten the life of the motor , My second floor system is mainly builder grade flex throughout the attic, at least they used R 8 , the current system removes humidity poorly ( I am sure the ductwork is a contributory factor) , it is about 1300 sq foot served by a 2 ton condenser with 2-12inch returns with each return having a 14×20 return grill. I even had to inform one of the companies that the breaker for the replacement outdoor unit quote had a 20 amp max breaker and my current 30 amp would have to be replaced. Is this how most of the HVAC contractors operate, rip out and replace ?

Sorry you’re having trouble. Try searching for companies that offer blower door testing. Ask them on the phone if they do duct sizing or static tests before they even come out. What area are you in? There’s bound to be someone here that can help you.

As far as your breaker, you can have a 30 amp breaker on a 20 amp max unit as long as the disconnect outside has the proper 20 amp) fuses in it.

I am in the Upstate of SC, I have a non fused disconnect BTW

Okay, two choices:

1) add a fused disconnect

2) replace the breaker

Either of these SHOULD be caught in a final inspection, so they would have to come back and fix that.

Is there permit fees included in your bids, or are permits/inspection not a thing where you are?
