Installing defrost heater, Traulsen G20010, where to clip the series thermometer.
Members,Hello! Stupid question, but I will try. Need to install a defrost heater on a cooler that does not have one (uses air cycle defrost). The new heater coil has an in line, series defrost thermometer (the older heaters do not, defrost controlled by the blue probe). Is it clipped on the suction or the liquid line of the evaporator? The clip is small, likely for 1/4″ tube, I guess. Thank you all.
My question is why are you putting the heater on an air defrost evaporator?

I’m tired of these mediocre “semi flammable” refrigerants. If we’re going to do it let’s do it right.
Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.

Excellent question, they seem to have 2 modes of defrost on the blue panel. One electric and the other air. The very newer models do not have them due to “supply chain” issues (according to them). The heated defrost system seems more reliable. The board supports it with the purple and white harness ready to go. Literally, they just did not put it in. Part 329-60022-01. Simple to install by lifting the evaporator and putting it under.

Thank you! And the weird thing is the 37T31 they included has a high opening temp and closing temp (L150-40F). The board terminates the defrost by the blue probe (evap temp probe – set to 40f). Why would they add this 37T31?
What would happen if the blue probe failed and kept the heater on ?

That is really interesting thanks.

Now that is a super good point. So safety feature only?
