Micron gauge question

Micron gauge question

  • Micron gauge question

Good evening. The other day i was pulling a vacuum on a mini split. I had a schrader removal tool at the service valve with a vacuum hose off the end and my micron gauge on the side port. When I isolated the micron gauge and the system the gauge went from 100 microns to 40,000 microns then immediately back to 100 microns. The system stayed at 100 microns after that. Does this sound like a gauge issue? Any idea why it would do this? Thanks in advance.

  • Probably had some gas trapped in the valve, between the ball and the seals. Good practice is to close the valve half way for a minute or so to get that out before closing the valve all the way.

My method is to close and open the valve at least 5 times once I get to 500 microns.

I’m tired of these mediocre “semi flammable” refrigerants. If we’re going to do it let’s do it right.

Unless we change direction we are likely to end up where we are going.
