(Trane) removing horizontal pan on a vertically mounted AHU
Probably a dumb question, but I’m replacing the drain pan on my parents unit which is vertically mounted, and wanted to see if the pan on the right was needed for anything outside of being used on horizontal applications. The install manual did not mention it, and I don’t deal with residential units, so I wanted to double check
Some manufacturers install guide says to remove them when in upflow position, some say for better air flow through coil and read also for better efficiency.Where you getting a drain pan from?
You removing the panel in between the coil?
Take it you removed the coil face plate?
Why not just install a new generic A coil?
It mentions it in the install manual. You remove the horizontal pan and then take the top baffle off usually there is a smaller top baffle under. Seems like that top baffle had a diverter under it that is removed. When all said and done it is supposed to allow smoother air flow.

I got it directly from Trane. I don’t know how much a generic coil costs, but the pan was only ~$70. I know the oem coil is pretty expensive, relatively speaking.

You’re right, it does. I went straight to the “Vertical Installations” section and overlooked the section right before it
